IR intros rugged, reliable AUIPS7221R intelligent power switch with high frequency PWM capability

EL SEGUNDO, USA: International Rectifier, (IR), a world leader in power management technology, today introduced the AUIPS7221R 65 V high-side intelligent power switch with fully integrated bootstrap function for fast actuator applications including fuel magnetic injectors and braking valves.

Housed in a small form factor, the AUIPS7221R delivers high frequency of 100 kHz and high current capability up to 25 A making it well suited to harsh 12 V or 24 V environments. Additionally, the device integrates a charge pump for full DC operation and features over-current and over-temperature shutdown to help assure safe operation and protection under repetitive short circuit conditions.

“Designing high current and high frequency protected switches using the AUIPS7221R integrated solution drastically reduces PCB constraints and significantly increases the performance of the entire system. Moreover, fuel injection is more efficient, reducing both consumption and contamination,” said David Jacquinod, product marketing manager, IR’s Automotive Business Unit.

The AUIPS7221R also features diagnostic function and very low current consumption in sleep mode.

The device is qualified according to AEC-Q100 standards, features an environmentally friendly, lead-free and RoHS compliant bill of materials, and is part of IR’s automotive quality initiative targeting zero defects.

Avnet Electronics Marketing teams with ROAL Electronics to power HBLEDs

Luminus Devices' LEDs power Acer’s new K11 pocket projector

InfoComm 2010, LAS VEGAS, USA: --(BUSINESS WIRE)--Luminus Devices Inc., designer, developer and manufacturer of high light output PhlatLight LEDs, announced that its PT-39 chipset is powering Acer’s K11 second generation DLP projector, the world’s smallest projector to offer a brightness of 200 lumens.

Succeeding the K10 projector, the K11 offers twice the performance in a reduced footprint of only 12.2 x 11.6 mm2, and weighing a mere 0.61 Kg. The K11 is compatible with iPhones/iPads, supports USB media sources, High Definition multimedia devices and includes a built-in card reader for fast media sharing.

The PhlatLight LED PT-39 chipset is engineered specifically for projection systems that use micro-displays ranging from 0.4” to 0.55” with individual red, green and blue LEDs. PhlatLight LEDs are larger than conventional LEDs and operate reliably at significantly higher intensity, delivering light output levels unprecedented in monolithic LEDs. Luminus Devices' PhlatLight LEDs illuminate Christie MicroTile’s digital canvas display

InfoComm 2010, LAS VEGAS, USA: Luminus Devices Inc., designer, developer and manufacturer of high light output PhlatLight LEDs, has announced its PT-54 chipset is the solid-state light source enabling Christie Digital’s revolutionary modular digital display solution, the MicroTile.

Christie MicroTiles are modular 40.8 cm wide x 30.6 cm high digital display tiles that can be stacked and clustered like building blocks to create virtually seamless large screens of any size and shape.

By removing rigid mechanical constraints imposed by competing technologies such as flat-display panels or LED walls, MicroTile opens new levels of creativity for solutions providers and designers who can integrate displays in any shape and scale, independent of physical constraints, with applications ranging from digital signage and advertising, commercial displays, stage displays or control rooms.

Luminus Devices’ PhlatLight LEDs power Samsung’s H03 personal media player and instant projector

InfoComm 2010, LAS VEGAS, USA: Luminus Devices Inc., a developer and manufacturer of high light output, PhlatLight LEDs, announced that Samsung’s new H03 Personal Media Player and Instant Projector is powered by its PhlatLight SBT-16 LED chipset.

The H03 is a hand-held, battery powered personal appliance that displays a variety of digital content such as pictures or movies through its internal media player or by connecting to external source devices such as cell phones and notebook computers.

The H03 renders crisp images through its embedded WVGA projector (800 x 480, or 384,000 pixels) and with PhlatLight LEDs delivers vivid colors and improved overall picture quality. Power Integrations intros LinkSwitch-PH and LinkSwitch-PL LED driver ICs

SAN JOSE, USA: Power Integrations, a leader in high-voltage ICs for energy-efficient power conversion, has announced two new families of TRIAC-dimmable, single-stage, power-factor-corrected LED driver ICs targeting solid-state lighting (SSL) applications. LinkSwitch-PH (optimized for isolated systems) and LinkSwitch-PL (optimized for non-isolated systems) deliver flicker-free monotonic TRIAC dimming and a user experience similar to that provided by incandescent illumination.

The LinkSwitch-PH and LinkSwitch-PL product families feature integrated single-stage power factor correction (PFC), enabling SSL luminaires to achieve PF > 0.9. LinkSwitch-PH devices incorporate primary-side-control technology, which eliminates the optocoupler and supporting components used in traditional isolated flyback designs. Non-isolated LinkSwitch-PL designs further reduce component count, resulting in improved reliability and a reduced bill of materials (BOM).

Both IC families are monolithic – incorporating the controller and MOSFET onto a single silicon die – which simplifies PCB layout by minimizing component count and eliminating parasitics between the controller and power MOSFET. These new LinkSwitch products are optimized for high efficiency in simple flyback designs and operate at input voltages up to 305 VAC, enabling the development of both single-voltage and universal-input products suitable for residential and commercial lighting applications worldwide.

When operated within manufacturers’ temperature and drive-current guidelines, LEDs can be expected to operate for more than 50,000 hours. The weakest link in an LED lighting system is the driver circuitry, which is burdened with unreliable optocouplers and electrolytic capacitors.

Power Integrations’ accurate primary-side-control technology, featured in LinkSwitch products, eliminates the optocoupler, and the new LinkSwitch LED driver IC product families do not require the use of electrolytic bulk capacitors. Designers using the LinkSwitch-PL and LinkSwitch-PH for SSL products can expect the operational life of the driver to match that of its accurately controlled LED array.

LinkSwitch-PH samples are available now in a halogen-free, ROHS-compliant eSIP-7C package, priced between $1.18 and $1.71 each for 10,000-piece quantities. LinkSwitch-PL ICs will sample in August 2010 in compact SO-8 and eDIP-12 packages.

Electronic component orders keep rising: ECA

ARLINGTON, USA: Electronic component orders swung upward again in May, according to the monthly order index compiled by the Electronic Components Association (ECA). The 12-month average, comparing this year’s results to last year’s, continued an ascent that began last summer.

ECA’s monthly report consolidates order information collected in confidence from leading electronic component manufacturers. The rise in orders reflects a combination of market optimism and fear of shortages, according to Bob Willis, ECA president.

“Manufacturers are responding to current and future electronics growth and don’t want to slow momentum by getting caught short of inventory,” says Willis.

Market analyst iSuppli recently reported that hot demand in Asian markets in the first quarter of this year fueled a 22.7 percent jump in PC sales over the same period last year.

Earlier in the year, iSuppli predicted a mild increase in the global consumer electronics market of 1.6 percent over last year.
