Active-Semi intros two new energy efficient green power products

SAN JOSE, USA: Active-Semi International has released two new green power devices, the ACT361/330 and the ACT4515.

The ACT361 and ACT330 are energy efficient charger and adapter solutions, with the 361 implementing 150mW standby power and the 330 30mW standby power. Both devices provide Energy Star 2.0 and CEC Level 5 efficiency with a Universal AC Input Range of 85-264VAC. Both provide a programmable constant output current of 7W maximum, and proprietary fast turn-on (< 0.3S at 90Vac input) technology (US patent pending).

Each requires very few external components and comes in small SOT23-6 packages. The ACT361 and ACT330 use primary side regulator (PSR) CV/CC control technique, which reduces component count by 20 percent compared to the traditional secondary side CV/CC control scheme.

“This year we anticipate a 35 percent increase in sales, capturing 10 percent of the total mobile phone charger market. With total shipment of over 250 million chips in 2010, Active-Semi is very pleased to continue to take a leadership position in green technology.”

The ACT4515 is an energy efficient compact car charger/adapter solution. It utilizes 24mW standby power and achieves 90 percent efficiency. It provides a programmable 5 percent constant output current of 1.5A max, with output DC cord compensation, 10-4V wide input range and very few external components required. The ACT4515 integrates CV/CC control circuit and power MOSFET. These integrations reduce external components by 15 percent and make the ACT4515 the best solution for small size car charger/adapter applications.

Manager of Development Procurement at LGE, Jee said: “By designing in ACT361 from Active, LGE is able to lower total system cost. The devices are AC/DC energy efficient and cost effective.”

Sourcing director at ZTE, Chang added: “The ACT361 advantages of lower component count and faster test times have clearly improved the charger production throughput of our charger ODM’s. This has aided ZTE in growing our mobile phone shipments.”
