DURHAM, USA: Cree Inc. has announced the commercial availability of the XLamp ML-B LED. Designed for quarter-watt operation, the XLamp ML-B LED brings lighting-class performance to distributed lighting applications where the light source is visible, such as panel lights and LED-based fluorescent tube replacements.
Lighting manufacturers have tried to achieve a uniform lighting appearance by placing many low-power LEDs in close proximity under a diffuser. This use of typical low-power LEDs will not enable manufacturers to meet rigorous ENERGY STAR requirements or customer's expectations. In contrast, Cree ML-B LEDs are designed to last 50,000 hours and to provide the lighting-class levels of efficacy, thermal resistance and reliability that can enable ENERGY STAR®-qualified fixtures.
“The innovative ML-B LED delivers lighting-class performance with the smooth, uniform appearance that lighting manufacturers want for distributed lighting applications,” said Paul Thieken, Cree director of marketing, LED components. “The ML-B LED provides the right balance of lumen output, footprint, efficacy and value for direct-view lighting.”
The XLamp ML-B LED delivers luminous flux up to 30 lm at 80 mA in cool white (5000K) and up to 24 lm in warm white (3000K). The ML-B LED shares the same footprint and package with the XLamp ML-E LED, and like the ML-E, provides uniform color over angle and a 120 degree viewing angle.

2010 worldwide HB LED market grew 93 percent
MOUNTAIN VIEW, USA: The worldwide high-brightness (HB) LED market leaped from $5.6 billion in 2009 to $10.8 billion in 2010, a growth rate of 93 percent, according to Strategies Unlimited, the leading market research firm in LEDs.
LCD monitor and TV backlights led the growth spurt, followed by mobile display applications. Ten companies accounted for more than 75 percent of the HB-LED market. Strategies Unlimited arrived at these figures after analyzing market demand as well as the supply-side activity of more than 40 HB-LED component suppliers.
The rank order, by revenue, of the top 10 suppliers in the HB-LED market in 2010 is:

While LCD television/monitor backlights accounted for the largest part of the jump in HB-LED revenue in 2010, mobile applications were also significant contributors. In particular, the large rise in PC notebook sales and the penetration rate for LED backlights used in notebooks doubled HB-LED revenue over 2009.
Strategies Unlimited expects television and monitor backlights to continue to be a strong engine for growth in the next two years and flatten out in 2013. The overall forecast CAGR is more than 16 percent from 2010–2015.
LED luminaire design, not performance, was the primary concern for the lighting market in 2010. HB-LED component revenue for lighting was $890 million in 2010. Solid-state lighting will become the key market driver in 2014 because of the worldwide focus on energy efficiency and the phase-out of incandescent bulbs. The forecast CAGR for HB-LED components for lighting from 2010–2015 is 39 percent.

Cree launches industry’s first surface mount 1200V silicon carbide Schottky diode
DURHAM, USA: Cree Inc. announced the availability of the industry’s first commercial 1200V surface mount SiC Schottky diode.
Packaged in an industry-standard surface mount TO-252 D-Pak, the Schottky diodes deliver the same proven performance as Cree’s TO-220 through-hole devices, with a smaller board footprint and lower profile. This can enable the design of smaller, lower cost, and more efficient solar power micro-inverters, compared to systems designed with larger and bulkier through-hole parts.
“Our customers designing high-efficiency micro-inverters for solar power applications wanted to simplify their designs without compromising system efficiency. They were looking for a surface mount device that could deliver the same performance they had come to expect from SiC Schottky diodes – zero reverse recovery losses, high frequency operation with a low EMI signature, and reduced operating temperatures,” explained Cengiz Balkas, Cree vice president and general manager, Power and RF.
“Given Cree’s experience in developing high-voltage SiC power devices, the move to the surface mount D-Pak was a natural extension of our Schottky diode product line to serve this critical market.”
Cree C2D05120E Schottky diodes are rated for 5A and 1200V, with approximate board mounted dimensions of 6.6mm wide x 9.9mm long x 2.3mm high. Operating junction and storage temperature is rated for -55°C to +175°C.
The C2D05120E surface mount Schottky diodes are fully qualified and released for production use.

Announcement of latest European emission standards leaves lithium battery industry at a crossroad
TAIWAN: A ground breaking news for electric vehicles in Europe: the European congress has passed the latest emission standard for commercial vehicles. EnergyTrend, a research division of TrendForce, believes that low emission vehicles will become an essential development trend for car makers in the near future.
Therefore, although concerns about oversupply of lithium battery in 2011 still remain, EnergyTrend believes that, with more specific carbon emission regulations made for vehicles, car makers have to prepare for low emission vehicle launches by 2014. It is forecasted that shortage of lithium battery supply will appear as a result. (See Chart 1).
The European congress has released the latest regulation on carbon emission standard for commercial vehicles on February 15, 2011. As for 3.5 ton light commercial cars, 70 percent of vehicles introduced to the market have to meet 175g/km emission standard, and 100 percent in 2017.
For those car makers who can not reach the goal, they are requested to pay $129/g incremental penalty payment starting from 2019. However, car makers are allowed to offset high carbon emission vehicles with vehicles emitting less than 50g/km to reach the target.
The legislation authority clearly shows EU’s determination to keep strict carbon emission standards for automobiles in Europe and to expedite the cooperation and development among parts manufacturers. Under such circumstances, several car makers are forced to adopt lithium batteries in the supply chain.
In the meantime, one of the biggest lithium battery exhibits in the world, Battery Japan, in early March 2011 in Tokyo, Japan. Many participants are gathered to witness the reformation of this particular industry which is now believed standing at a crossroad.

LED backlighting drives double digit growth for DTV semiconductors in 2011
EL SEGUNDO, USA: Driven by the vibrant light-emitting diode (LED) backlighting segment, the global digital TV (DTV) semiconductor market is expected to expand by a robust 16.5 percent in 2011, according to new IHS iSuppli research.
Revenue in 2011 for DTV semiconductors is projected to reach $15.5 billion, up from $13.3 billion in 2010. Without the high-performing market for LED backlights used in liquid-crystal display (LCD) televisions, growth of the overall DTV semiconductor space in 2011 would amount to just 4.1 percent.

The strong rise in the LED backlighting chips this year contrasts with the decelerating growth in the overall DTV semiconductor market. This year’s DTV semiconductor growth will amount to half the 33 percent expansion rate recorded last year, when the market rebounded from an anemic 2009 that was hamstrung by the economic crisis. The LED segment, on the other hand, continues at a blistering pace, jumping 138.4 percent from $1.3 billion in 2010 to an anticipated $3.1 billion this year.
“The disparity in growth between the overall DTV semiconductor market and the LED backlighting segment points to divergent dynamics in the television space today,” said Randy Lawson, manager and principal analyst for display and consumer electronics at IHS.
“On one end of the continuum, the slowdown of the DTV semiconductor market mirrors the general deceleration of growth in the worldwide television market, particularly in the United States and the European Union. It also reflects the decline in average selling prices of television semiconductors. The opposite side of the spectrum, however, exhibits a vigorous, ever-expanding LED backlighting segment within the industry—borne by the continued transition among manufacturers to feature the new technology in product offerings, as well as by the adoption among consumers of fashionable, ultra-thin LED sets into their homes.”
LED backlighting chips will generate $5.5 billion in revenue and be present in more than 80 percent of all flat-panel televisions by 2014, a far cry from $370 million in 2009 when they were available in less than 3 percent of models in the market, IHS iSuppli research shows.
All told, numerous new technologies and features in addition to LED backlighting are being implemented in flat-panel TV sets that will serve to fuel growth of the DTV semiconductor market. Among them are the adoption of 3-D technology, frame-rate conversion to 120Hz and 240Hz, wireless connectivity and Internet media playback.
In particular, the broader adoption of wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, will represent a new area of opportunity for semiconductor suppliers.

The strong rise in the LED backlighting chips this year contrasts with the decelerating growth in the overall DTV semiconductor market. This year’s DTV semiconductor growth will amount to half the 33 percent expansion rate recorded last year, when the market rebounded from an anemic 2009 that was hamstrung by the economic crisis. The LED segment, on the other hand, continues at a blistering pace, jumping 138.4 percent from $1.3 billion in 2010 to an anticipated $3.1 billion this year.
“The disparity in growth between the overall DTV semiconductor market and the LED backlighting segment points to divergent dynamics in the television space today,” said Randy Lawson, manager and principal analyst for display and consumer electronics at IHS.
“On one end of the continuum, the slowdown of the DTV semiconductor market mirrors the general deceleration of growth in the worldwide television market, particularly in the United States and the European Union. It also reflects the decline in average selling prices of television semiconductors. The opposite side of the spectrum, however, exhibits a vigorous, ever-expanding LED backlighting segment within the industry—borne by the continued transition among manufacturers to feature the new technology in product offerings, as well as by the adoption among consumers of fashionable, ultra-thin LED sets into their homes.”
LED backlighting chips will generate $5.5 billion in revenue and be present in more than 80 percent of all flat-panel televisions by 2014, a far cry from $370 million in 2009 when they were available in less than 3 percent of models in the market, IHS iSuppli research shows.
All told, numerous new technologies and features in addition to LED backlighting are being implemented in flat-panel TV sets that will serve to fuel growth of the DTV semiconductor market. Among them are the adoption of 3-D technology, frame-rate conversion to 120Hz and 240Hz, wireless connectivity and Internet media playback.
In particular, the broader adoption of wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, will represent a new area of opportunity for semiconductor suppliers.

ST raises reliability and efficiency for ultra-compact LED lamps
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND: The first in a new family of mains-operated LED lamp drivers from STMicroelectronics, a global leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications and the worldwide leader in ICs for electronic lighting control, will enable designers to deliver more reliable and efficient LED retrofit lamps featuring primary-side current regulation.
LED lighting, including retrofit bulbs, is expected to account for 80% of the lighting market by 2020 or sooner. Primary-Side Regulation (PSR) cuts bill-of-materials costs for retrofit bulbs, thereby reducing the payback time, while also simplifying design and reducing the space occupied by LED control circuitry.
The new HVLED805 integrates an 800V avalanche-rugged MOSFET, achieved using ST’s high-voltage integration process, which is higher than in competing devices and hence offers greater reliability. The high-voltage on-chip startup circuitry allows the device to start reliably when the AC line voltage is applied to the lamp.
Primary-side regulation maintains the constant LED current that is needed to ensure consistent light output, without requiring the current-sensing components and opto-coupler used in conventional secondary-side regulation. The elimination of these components decreases the cost and size of the LED driving circuitry and saves current-sensing losses, improving overall efficiency.
Using PSR, the HVLED805 guarantees LED current regulation to within 5% accuracy. Reliability is also enhanced, due to the elimination of the opto-coupler in the secondary side, whose degradation can significantly decrease the mean-time-between-failure of the lamp.
The HVLED805 PSR controller integrates high-voltage startup for efficient power-on, and the robust 800V power MOSFET allows a reduction of the snubber network. The highly efficient quasi-resonant (QR) operating mode further boosts energy savings for LED lighting and dramatically reduces the EMI filtering required, saving space and costs.

AVX’s UQCL series capacitors provide high current, high Q and low ESR

Financial statement by major LED makers in Europe, USA, Japan and South Korea in 4Q10 to show new trend
TAIWAN: Based on the analysis and statistics of LEDinside, which is a research division under TrendForce, International LED major manufacturers successively released their 4Q10 financial reports. In terms of upstream equipment suppliers, the LED and solar revenue of Veeco set the highest quarterly record of $258 million.
Over 20 customers, such Shanghai Epilight, placed the purchase orders for lighting application. However, the planned shipments of 12-20 new MOCVD products「MaxBright」are not included in the Q1 financial statement. Besides, the revenue recognition delay is expected to greatly affect the result of Q1 financial results.
However, since the fund-subsidy policy launched by Chinese government, LED enterprises keep on production expansions. Orders from Korean customers are expected to surge in backlight and lighting markets in Q2 and Q3. Moreover, it is forecasted that the MOCVD orders for K465i and MaxBright will also increase in the markets of Europe, USA, Japan and Taiwan. To sum up, Veeco is still optimistic about market quotations in the first half of 2011.
The revenue of Cree was worse than expected, because the sales of LED components declined in Asia market, which resulted in the fact that the turnover time of receivables is lengthened to 47 days, with the inventory date increased to 96 days. From January to March in 2011, influenced by continuous inventory adjustment of Asia customers, Cree forecasts that Q1 revenue will drop to $245-265 million.
However, the sales of Philips LED lighting products has increased by four times over the same period of 2009, which benefits from a range of professional LED solutions applied in over 200 Chinese lighting stores and the turnover reduction caused by the lagged market development in India and North America.
Regarding the manufacturers in South Korea, influenced by LED TV inventory adjustment and price reduction, LG Innotek, have obtained the annual sales of $789 million in 2010. The LED department of SEMCO doubled the annual sales to $1.142 billion compared with 2009.
Because of slack season and LED TV inventory adjustment, the quarterly sales of Seoul Semi reduced sharply by 20 percent to $198 million, but rebounded in Q4. It is estimated that the annual sales will reach 1.203 billion in 2011(+61 percent YoY), mainly of TV backlights and general lighting applications.
Based on the extension of eco-point subsidy in Japan, Sharp LED TV has increased greatly in demand, and planned to introduce large-size television with 60-70 inch screen in order to seize the business opportunity in North America. In addition, the recovery of Stanley vehicle lighting will slow down caused by the termination of green vehicle subsidy in Japan and the incentive policy in Germany and Italy.
In conclusion, 2010 is an evolutionary year for LED manufacturers, while 2011 will become a brighter year.

Bourns announces new line of shunt protectors for sensitive LED lighting apps

CVD Equipment receives orders of $9.3 million in January

Inventory replenishment of LED TV brand plants stimulates backlight demand; revenue of Taiwan LED makers bottom out in January

Teledyne and DALSA complete plan of arrangement
THOUSAND OAKS, USA & WATERLOO, CANADA: Teledyne Technologies Imc. and DALSA Corp. jointly announced the successful completion of the previously announced plan of arrangement.
The Arrangement was completed following the approval of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) and satisfaction of the various conditions precedent to the Arrangement.
DALSA received the requisite shareholder approvals for the Arrangement at the meeting of its shareholders held on February 10, 2011. The Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) granted a final order approving the Arrangement on February 11, 2011. The DALSA shares will be delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange on or about February 17, 2011. DALSA will also apply to cease to be a reporting issuer under applicable Canadian securities laws.
Pursuant to the Arrangement, Teledyne acquired all of the issued and outstanding DALSA shares for CAD $18.25 in cash for each DALSA share. The aggregate value for the transaction is approximately CAD $337 million, taking into account DALSA’s stock options and net cash as of December 31, 2010. Avantor Performance Materials to open new electronics lab in Taiwan
PHILLIPSBURG, USA: Avantor Performance Materials Inc. (formerly, Mallinckrodt Baker, Inc.) today announced plans to open an electronics applications laboratory in Taiwan during the second quarter of 2011. The new laboratory will be used to conduct customer demonstrations, perform process of record (POR) development and support Avantor’s global electronics technologies development.

Microsemi announces timing controller plus LED backlight solution for next-gen 3D LCD TVs
IRVINE, USA: Microsemi Corp., a leading provider of semiconductor technology aimed at powering a smart, secure, connected world, has announced collaboration with Sony Corp. Semiconductor Business Group for the first open market 3D-capable timing controller plus local dimming LED backlighting solution for the manufacturing of lower cost, high volume next-generation LCD TVs.
The combined solution includes a Sony timing and lighting controller, part number CXD4730GB and the Microsemi LED driver solution consisting of two chips, the DAZL!2000 series 32-port logic chip (LX24232) and 8-port LED driver power chip (LX23108L).
The complete turn-key reference design draws on Sony's powerful video and light processing technology and Microsemi's DAZL! EnRayTek chooses Veeco’s MOCVD systems for new LED factory
PLAINVIEW, USA: Veeco Instruments Inc. announced that it has been selected as the primary supplier of Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) systems by Enraytek Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. (EnRayTek), a new company established to make LEDs for backlighting LED-TVs.
During the fourth quarter of 2010, EnRayTek placed initial orders for Veeco TurboDisc K465i MOCVD systems to be installed at its new LED factory in Shanghai, China.

iWatt’s high power-factor-corrected digital LED driver IC delivers flicker-free dimming for commercial and industrial LED lighting
LOS GATOS, USA: iWatt Inc., a developer of energy-efficient digital power supply control integrated circuits (ICs) used in leading-edge power supplies, has expanded its family of digital LED driver ICs with a two-stage, power-factor-corrected (PFC), primary-side-regulated, leading- and trailing-edge-dimmable, AC/DC Digital PWM Controller targeting 120V/230VAC offline commercial and industrial LED lighting applications.
Designed for isolated or non-isolated LED drivers used in incandescent replacement lamps including both space-constrained (GU10, MR16) and larger (A, PAR) types, the iW3614 (3W to 15W) incorporates features to assure power efficiency, durability, reduced size and component costs, and flicker-free compatibility with existing wall dimmers worldwide.
The iW3614 joins its siblings, the medium-power iW3610/iW3612 ICs and low-power iW3602, as iWatt’s first LED driver IC targeted for commercial and industrial LED lighting applications with PF > 0.9. All four ICs are pin compatible, and the iW3602/iW3612/iW3614 include hot-plug support, where the user can swap the LED engine without recycling the input power for the LED driver.
The iW3614 features a two-stage PFC scheme on a single chip. A front-stage boost converter enables PF > 0.90 (typically 0.94), while the following PWM driver stage minimizes ripple current at the output. This scheme eliminates the disadvantages of a single-stage design, such as the low 100Hz/120Hz line frequency ripple and resulting flicker at the output. Reducing the output ripple current also enables smaller output capacitors, leading to size, cost and reliability benefits.
The low-frequency (100Hz/120Hz) flicker common to single-stage PFC solutions has the potential to cause headaches, migraines, eye strain and other ill effects, and is currently under scrutiny by the IEEE standards working group, the IEEE PAR1789. “The power savings that make LED lighting solutions attractive will be undermined if they cause significant health risks to the public,” said Ron Edgerton, CEO of iWatt. “Our engineers are looking at ways to preserve the industry’s energy-efficiency benefits and avoid the potential health risks.”
A single-stage PFC design can also limit the dimming range (typically 10% to 100%) as it may lack a bulk electrolytic storage capacitor to store energy and subsequently power the LEDs when the dimmer phase cut is low. iWatt’s two-stage design overcomes this challenge with a small bulk storage capacitor to allow a wide (1% to 100%) dimming range.
In iWatt’s LED driver ICs, intelligent digital algorithms automatically detect all types of dimmers or a lack thereof, for flicker-free operation with existing wall dimmers worldwide, including both leading-edge (TRIAC style) and trailing-edge dimmers. In case of an unsupported dimmer, safe mode shuts it down. The device allows smooth, flicker-free dimming with tight ±5% LED current regulation which prevents flicker from the noisy line voltage common on a factory floor.
iWatt’s AC/DC power conversion ICs are unique in that they feature a digital feedback and control loop versus analog. This adaptive digital control technology optimizes efficiency and reliability, and simplifies printed circuit board (PCB) design. Moser Baer Technologies, Universal Display announce technology and licensing agreement for energy-efficient white OLED lighting
CANANDAIGUA & EWING, USA: Moser Baer Technologies Inc., a US subsidiary of Moser Baer India Ltd., and Universal Display Corp., enabling energy-efficient displays and lighting with its UniversalPHOLED technology and materials, announced that the two companies have agreed to terms of a Memorandum of Agreement for technology licensing, material supply and technology assistance to support Moser Baer Technologies’ initiatives in white OLED lighting.
This agreement follows a program that the two companies announced last year in which the companies received $4,000,000 from the US Department of Energy to design and build the first white OLED lighting pilot manufacturing facility in the United States.
Under the agreement, Moser Baer Technologies will license Universal Display’s proprietary PHOLED and other OLED technologies and purchase Universal Display’s highly energy-efficient UniversalPHOLED materials for white OLED panel manufacturing. Moser Baer Technologies and Universal Display will also work together in a five-year program to support Moser Baer’s manufacture of white PHOLED lighting products.
The establishment of Moser Baer Technologies’ pilot manufacturing facility is a key next step in the development of a manufacturing base and market for white OLED lighting products in the US. The resulting panels will be made available to luminaire manufacturers to help seed the market for a range of new white OLED lighting products in the $90 billion lighting market.

PHOLED technology is expected to play a critical role in the development and deployment of OLED solid state lighting technology, which offers increased energy efficiency, decreased power consumption, and an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional incandescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs.
According to industry estimates, electric bills for lighting alone are over $200 billion per year on a worldwide basis. It has been estimated that by 2016, white OLEDs could generate well over $20 billion in worldwide savings of electricity costs and could save over nine million metric tons of carbon emissions from the US alone.

The joint DOE program between Moser Baer Technologies and Universal Display is part of the DOE’s long-term commitment to advancing the development and introduction of energy-efficient white OLED lighting sources for general illumination. PHOLED technology is expected to play a critical role in the development and deployment of OLED solid state lighting technology, which offers increased energy efficiency, decreased power consumption, and an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional incandescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs.
According to industry estimates, electric bills for lighting alone are over $200 billion per year on a worldwide basis. It has been estimated that by 2016, white OLEDs could generate well over $20 billion in worldwide savings of electricity costs and could save over nine million metric tons of carbon emissions from the US alone.
GigOptix to acquire Endwave
PALO ALTO, USA: GigOptix Inc., a leading supplier of high performance electronic and electro-optic components that enable next generation 40G and 100G optical networks, has signed a definitive merger agreement to acquire Endwave Corp., a leading provider of high frequency RF solutions and semiconductor products for the wireless mobile backhaul communications, satellite communications, electronic instruments and defense and security markets.
The combined company will retain the name GigOptix, Inc. to become a high speed, high frequency leader for optical and wireless communications. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of this year.

Valeo files record number of patents in 2010

Hubbell Lighting Luminaires provide safety and sustainability for LEED certified garage at University of Nebraska
GREENVILLE, USA: Hubbell Lighting, a division of Hubbell Inc., and a market leader in innovative lighting technology for over a century, provided both indoor and outdoor energy efficient illumination for a 5-story parking garage with more than 1,000 parking spaces on the campus of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Built near the east/northeast corner of the growing higher education campus, the parking garage, which opened in the Fall 2010 semester primarily to serve students and faculty, attained USGBC LEED certification, a first for the State of Nebraska for this type of parking structure.
Under the guidance of Engineering Technologies Inc., (ETI), the lighting specified for the garage called for 379 state-of-the-art interior and 47 exterior pole mounted fixtures from Kim Lighting, a Hubbell Lighting brand. ETI chose Kim Lighting’s patent-pending PGL7- LED fixtures for interior illumination and Kim’s WARP9-LED pole mounted area lighting fixtures for the garage’s exposed roof level parking.
“As designer of the facility, our main goal was to provide a safe and effective environment for the occupants,” said Gary Loop, an ETI principal/electrical engineer.
“We took advantage of the unique characteristics of the light sources available to us as well as the energy they saved. By comparison to traditional indoor HID 100watt HID lamps/magnetic ballast, the PGL7 LED/electronic driver provides a 44 percent energy savings per unit; compared to an outdoor 250 watt HID/magnetic ballast the new WARP9 LED/electronic driver provides a 52 percent energy savings per unit, impressive figures that go directly to the University’s bottom line. When we were presented with Kim’s new PGL7 and WARP9 luminaires by Lighting Specialists, the Hubbell Lighting sales agency, we could immediately observe the energy savings they presented.”
“Unique to Kim’s new designs were the internal optics that not only provided the light levels desired but also put the light where we wanted. One of the important visual characteristics that we observed from Kim’s fixtures was the reduction in glare compared to similar LED fixtures and conventional sources. Being able to provide a well lit environment while minimizing distractions to the driver allowed us to provide an effective design,” said Loop.
“To meet high standards of reduced energy and maintenance costs as well as limited light trespass, Kim’s proprietary MicroEmitter technology was used to provide the garage with exceptional luminous uniformity and glare control. Unlike most LED and HID luminaries whose light output is directed straight down, the Kim luminaries with MicroEmitter technology dramatically improve illumination uniformity by eliminating the wasteful “nadir dump” of lumens directly below the fixture. Because each MicroEmitter is precisely aimed exactly where needed, glare is substantially reduced preventing direct view of more than 50 percent of the LEDs from any viewing angle,” noted a Kim Lighting spokesperson.
In addition to the Kim Lighting’s remarkable fixture performance, the company is doing its part to limit hazardous waste by using aluminum-housing materials and reflector components constructed from more than 90 percent recycled materials for all MicroEmitter LED luminaire offerings. All of Kim’s LED products are entirely lead and mercury free meeting strict US and international environmental protection and recyclable requirements.

Diodes Inc.'s op-amps raise audio performance

With a low input noise performance of only 8nV/√Hz at 1kHz, these dual channel op-amps meet demands for higher performance audio without an increase in BOM cost. This performance, coupled with a wide unity gain bandwidth of 3MHz, makes the op-amps well suited to a broad range of cost-sensitive audio products including set top boxes and pre-amplifiers.
Two variants are being offered by Diodes, the commercial grade APX4558 with an operating temperature range of 0ºC to 70ºC and the industrial grade APX4558I, operating from -40ºC up to 105ºC. Both new parts are provided in the SO8 package and are pin-for-pin compatible with industry standard op-amp alternatives.
