TAIWAN & SHANGHAI, CHINA: LEDforum Shanghai 2011 commenced at Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel Shanghai on July 6 and 7, 2011 with a full house. Executives of the world’s leading companies presented in-depth analysis of the LED market and cutting-edge report on the future development of LED Industry. In addition, the analyst of LEDinside released the latest research of the trend of global LED market and industry report, which were one of the highlights at this year’s forum.
The first day of LEDforum Shanghai 2011 began with the opening speech and welcome speech by the Shanghai Municipal Government leader and the Head of Science and Technology Commission and the welcome speech by C.L. Liu Ph.D., chairman of TrendForce Corp., followed by an introduction by Junhao Chu, Ph.D., director assistant and deputy director at Shanghai Research Center of Engineering and Technology in Solid State Lighting, to the 12th Five-year Plan regarding the solid-state lighting industry in Shanghai. Afterward, the sessions of the first day of LEDforum Shanghai started.
In his speech, C.L. Liu used the example of gaining property and the anecdote of the diplomat meeting President Clinton to elaborate the importance of innovation. His example and anecdote established a professional, intellectual and witty tone for the forum.Junhao Chu, Ph.D. of Shanghai Research Center of Engineering and Technology in Solid State Lighting indicated that the difference of integrated factors among domestic products and the overemphasis on the midstream and downstream market will lead to a resource competition between manufacturers. The different sectors of the industry chain have to be foundation of the core competitiveness.
Panel Discussion: LED Interior Lighting and The Realization of LED Innovative Applications
The event concluded with a panel discussion titled: LED Interior Lighting and The Realization of LED Innovative Applications.
The higher executives of Philips Lighting, Philips Lumileds, Jiangsu Canyang, Veeco, Aixtron, Tridonic attended the panel discussion regarding interior lighting and market. The panel discussion was hosted by Sean Zhou, regional marketing director of Philips Lumileds Lighting.
In light of the fact that different markets hold different demands for LED products, Jaap Schlejen, the Vice President of Philips Lighting, stated that trend of LED lighting products needs to be analyzed from the household application market perspective as well as the professional application market. On one hand, in the household application market, the emphasis is placed on cost and reliability: only products with low cost and high reliability will be able to obtain large market share. On the other hand, in the professional application market, efficiency outweighs other factors. The policies enacted by the Chinese government have propelled the demands for LED applications in office lighting.
Jia Lee, director of Marketing of Veeco Instruments, talked about the methods of increasing the LED penetration rate in commercial lighting. From the perspective of a MOCVD equipment provider, such a goal can be achieved by providing manufacturers with bigger wafers and manufacturing equipment which generates higher production volume.
Finally, the higher executives took questions from the attendees and answered them deliberately.
