NeoPhotonics unveils portfolio of 10G PON transceivers for FTTP networks

OFC/NFOEC 2010, SAN DIEGO, USA: NeoPhotonics announced a new line of 10G PON transceivers, compliant with the ITU-T G987.2 and IEEE 802.3av networking standards, to augment its portfolio of GPON and GEPON modules used in “fiber to the premise” (FTTP) networks around the world.

These new pluggable 10G OLT and ONU transceivers enhance NeoPhotonics’ existing line of GPON and GEPON modules for optical line terminals (OLT) and Optical Networking Units (ONU), which are deployed in Central Offices (CO) and at Customer Premises (CPE), respectively. Together, these OLT and ONU devices form a broad portfolio of small form factor transceivers for 10G PON systems manufacturers.

The ITU-T G987.2 compatible transceivers support data rates of 10G in the downstream direction and 2.5G burst mode transmission in the upstream direction covering nominal link budgets of 29 dB and 31 dB. The IEEE 802.3av compatible transceivers support data rates of 10G in the downstream direction and 1G burst mode transmission in the upstream direction covering link budgets of up to 30.5 dB. The OLT transceivers are offered in the XFP form factor, whereas the ONU transceivers come in space and power saving SFP+ form factor. Monitoring features allow early fault location and reduce down time in system operation.

“These 10G PON transceivers complement our current portfolio of FTTP products,” said Tim Jenks, Chairman and CEO of NeoPhotonics. “Our NG PON transceiver line meets the performance and reliability requirements for triple-play access networks and builds on our experience in several segments of the optical access market.”
