SANTA CLARA, USA: ON Semiconductor will showcase California Micro Devices’ (CMD) innovative LuxGuard family of turnkey solutions for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection and thermal management for high power, high brightness light emitting diode (LED) lighting applications at EDN magazine’s Designing with LEDs Seminar and Workshop at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California, on March 17 as a Silver Sponsor.
CMD’s new LuxGuard CM1753 and CM1754 will be spotlighted at the EDN seminar. These devices feature a 50V breakdown voltage specification, delivering a robust 8kV Human Body Model (HBM) of ESD protection with low input capacitance for high power, high efficacy HBLED lighting applications.
Designed as silicon based side mount ESD protectors, the CM1753 is designed for P-up common cathode configurations and the CM1754 provides identical protection for N-up common anode configurations. Their small form factor enables them to be used in all applications, including existing HBLED lamp modules with 1 to 15 LEDs in the string.
CMD is a wholly owned subsidiary of ON Semiconductor and a pioneer in the development of ESD protection circuits for high power HBLED applications. Since 2001, CMD has shipped more than 300 million units to customers.
The market for high power HBLEDs has expanded beyond traditional market segments such as the status and alphanumeric display markets into a wider range of lighting applications including illumination; automotive; signage and residential and commercial lighting.
Additional ON Semiconductor GreenPoint LED lighting solutions will be demonstrated at Booth 14 including:
* Halogen desk lamp converted to LED using a Cree XLAMP MC-E LED. The lamp is powered by an ON Semiconductor offline LED driver GreenPoint reference design and meets the ENERGY STAR® SSL Power Factor Requirement for Residential Luminaires.
* MR16 LED lamp powered by an ON Semiconductor 1W to 5W LED driver GreenPoint reference design, which allows operation off of 12V ac or 12V dc.
