Microsemi demos LED backlighting technology for Edge-Lit LCD TV displays

IRVINE, USA: Microsemi Corp. is demonstrating a family of LED backlight controllers for ultra-thin edge-lit LCD TV displays at the SID International Symposium, today through May 28 in Booth #317 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.

Microsemi's K2 family includes the LX23204 backlight controller, which supports long, high-voltage LED string configurations (up to 300V) for edge-lit backlighting configurations.

The device integrates two DC-DC pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers to support an industry-leading four LED strings with a single device. It uses external MOSFETs with PWM duty-cycle control to turn the LED strings on and off for brightness adjustment. The K2 controller family provides options to support both analog and digital PWM dimming frequencies to 2kHz.

"Microsemi is excited to demonstrate our third-generation DAZL (Digital Advanced Zone Lighting) device family for LED LCD display applications," said Tom Kapucija, director of marketing with the Analog Mixed Signal Group.

"Our expanding LED backlighting product portfolio continues to address the system-level cost and performance issues facing the industry. Migrating our PureBLACK(TM) technology to LED applications enables edge-lit LED displays with the industry's best PWM-dimming duty-cycle performance for improved image quality and dynamic contrast performance."
