TAIWAN: Mouser Electronics Inc. is now stocking the VCNL4010 proximity and ambient light sensor from Vishay Semiconductors. Broadening its already popular VCLN optoelectronics portfolio, the VCNL4010 offers 16-bit resolution in a fully integrated proximity and ambient light optical sensor.
The device features a power-saving interrupt function, infrared emitter, a signal processing IC and a standard I2C communication interface. The 16-bit resolution of this sensor makes it accurate enough for proximity detection while providing excellent cross talk immunity. The VCNL4010's programmable LED drive current senses distances of up to 200mm.
The Vishay Semiconductors VCNL4010 proximity and ambient light sensor, available from Mouser Electronics, combines an infrared emitter, photo-pin-diode, ambient light detector, signal processing features, and 16‑bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) all in one compact package. The power-saving interrupt function enables the sensor to stay idle until a predefined proximity or ambient light event occurs, thereby triggering and waking up the chip.
The sensor offers 100Hz and 120Hz flicker noise rejection, and the built-in ambient light photo‑pin‑diode offers sensitivity close to that of the human eye, with a 16-bit dynamic range for ambient light detection from 0.25lux to 16klux. The sensor offers a Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) of 3, and operates over a temperature range of -25°C to + 85°C. Other features of the VCNL4010 include a low stand‑by current consumption of 1.5μA and a supply voltage range of 2.5V to 3.6V.
The VCNL4101 is ideal for a variety of mobile, lighting, industrial and sensor applications. From smartphones, touch phones, PDAs, GPS units and digital cameras, to computing and industrial devices and displays, the VCNL4010 is an ideal solution for any designer looking for a fully-integrated proximity and ambient light optical sensor.
The Vishay Semiconductor VCNL4010 is available in a compact, 3.95mm x 3.95mm x 0.75mm leadless (LLP), surface-mount package. The device is compliant to RoHS directive 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC, is free of halogens, and is compatible with lead (Pb)-free soldering.
