HONG KONG: Illuminating the bright future of the lighting industry, the fifth edition of HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair 2013 (Spring Edition) will be staged on 6-9 April 2013 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, and the event is expected to attract global exhibitors to fulfill orders for the coming prime autumn/winter season and beyond.
With a leap of 47 percent growth in the number of exhibitors, the four-day lighting fair period attracted more than 950 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions in 2012 and produced a strong visitor turnout, with over 15,000 buyers from 106 countries and regions attending this stand-alone event. The fair is expected to continue to expand this year and allow more exhibitors to showcase their latest products and to demonstrate innovative technologies to buyers.
In response to environmental concerns, lighting products of higher energy efficiency and longer lifetime are in demand. Another significant development in the industry is the boom of DIY (do-it-yourself) market, so a wide range of hardware items and parts are offered for DIY purposes. Decorative items are no longer limited to seasonal lighting sets but now include domestic lighting products, such as track lights, linear lights and spotlights of different novelty designs.
Both exhibitors and buyers greatly appreciated the numerous opportunities generated by the fair. “My company supplies LED lighting solutions to hotels, restaurants and schools as well as providing architectural and landscape building lighting. This is my fourth visit to this fair – everybody in the industry is here. I take the opportunity to catch up with existing suppliers and find new ones. ” said Colin Holliday, manager/owner, Greenlight, Australia.
To keep up with the fast changing market, the 2013 fair will continue to highlight important growing market sectors through its themed zones. Three new zones will shine brightly, including the Hall of Display World which will turn the spotlight onto different types of marketing lighting products such as display panels, advertising light boxes and advertising light signs.
World of Chandeliers emphasizes good design with a range of products in style suited to sophisticated settings. The Hall of Accessolight is dedicated to the varied products used in and linked to the lighting industry, including lighting chemicals, metal supply, and glass machining.
Two zones introduced in 2012, and which proved highly popular with exhibitors and visitors alike, will make a welcome return in 2013: Hall of Aurora offers an elegant environment in which to promote branded quality lighting products; Hall of LED & Green Lighting is devoted to the fast-growing modern lighting solution and is split into 2 sub-zones covering Indoor Lighting and Outdoor Lighting.
Other theme zones – Commercial Lighting, Decorative Lighting, Lighting Accessories, Parts & Components and Technical & Outdoor Lighting – will allow buyers to target exhibitors offering lighting products which cover household, commercial as well as architectural uses.
The fair will also serve as an information exchange platform, where participants can keep up to date with market intelligence, the latest technological developments and regulatory updates, through the Asian Lighting Forum and a series of seminars addressing key issues of the lighting industry.
The 6th Hong Kong Lighting Design Competition, being held during the spring edition of the fair for the first time, aims at enhancing the design quality and creativity of Hong Kong lighting industry. Winning products will be showcased throughout the fair period.
In addition to HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition), two concurrent fairs will also be held on 13 – 16 April 2013: HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), Asia’s largest electronics fair, and HKTDC International ICT Expo, which offers information, communication & technology products.
