RF Code intros long-lasting wireless (wire-free) temperature-humidity sensor

Data Center World Spring 2012, LAS VEGAS, USA: RF Code, a leading provider of active IT asset management and wire-free environmental and power monitoring solutions, introduced the R155 five-year temperature and humidity sensor tag. Based on a power saving technology developed by RF Code, the sensor combines long life with a 10-second beacon rate.

This new sensor differs from other wireless sensors, which typically sacrifice beaconing rate to preserve battery life. Because data center environmental conditions can change on a dime, with consequences that affect cooling and power as well as asset viability, the ability to know immediately about a change is critical. So the key is to combine both long life and fast beaconing in one sensor.

“Our customers depend on timely information in order to run their data centers most efficiently,” said Chris Gaskins, VP of Product Development, RF Code. “Therefore, we wanted to make sure that extending the battery life didn’t come at the expensive of the beacon rate. Our new R155 temperature-humidity sensor achieves the twin goals of long life and real time monitoring. This gives customers the most affordable, accurate solution available.”

The R155 sensor is based on the same active RFID technology that underlies all RF Code sensors, eliminating the need to use cabling for deployment. Such wire-free installation means deployments aren’t restricted by wiring requirements. The sensor is part of RF Code’s environmental monitoring solution, which fully automates the capturing of sensor data, including temperature, humidity, fluid detection, power usage, air pressure and more.
