Cirrus Logic's 'industry first' digital power factor correction ICs now available at Newark

CHICAGO, USA: Newark, a leading multi-channel, high-service electronics distributor in the Americas and part of the global Premier Farnell Group, announced that it is among the first to stock the industry’s first digital power factor correction (PFC) controller ICs that surpass analog PFCs on performance and price.

Just introduced by Cirrus Logic, the CS1500 and CS1600 offer power supply and lighting ballast system designers improved performance and simplified designs, as compared to legacy analog PFC products.

Featuring the new EXL Core architecture, the CS1500 and CS1600 have the advantage over analog products of being able to intelligently solve increasingly complex power management challenges. They enable reduced-sized EMI filters, which cut the need for additional high-priced components and circuitry, and improve energy efficiency across all load conditions, with a distinct performance advantage in light load conditions. System design is also simplified by reducing external component count by more than 30 percent.

Whitepapers, videos, datasheets and applications notes for the new products are posted on the Cirrus Logic page on element14, Premier Farnell’s popular engineering resource and collaborative community.

“We are pleased to be among the first to offer design engineers this innovative technology,” comments Jeff Uden, Vice President, Product Management, Newark. “It is an excellent fit for many applications within the industrial market, which is one of our largest customer segments.”

The EXL Core is a trademark of Cirrus Logic.
