Toshiba to launch AC/DC isolated offline LED controller for LED lighting

JAPAN: Toshiba announced the development of an AC/DC offline LED controller IC employing a single converter PFC for LED lighting and lighting equipment.

The samples are currently available and the company will move to commercialization in July.

The new product is an isolated flyback LED power controller that was developed to meet demanding design criteria: support for triac dimming; high PFC and fewer external parts by achieving active PFC with a single converter; and no use of opto-couplers and detectors for average LED current control of the second side of the transformer.

The power factor value (PF) is more than 0.8-0.9 with standard 120-220V AC, and the accuracy of LED output current is +/-5 percent.

LED lighting, now replacing incandescent, offers low power consumption and a long operating life. Toshiba is developing products that feature control of higher power LED, that support dimming and higher PF, and that deliver more accurate output current with higher efficiency.
