MEMSCAP announces Telcordia qualification of MEMS electrostatic variable optical attenuator packaged product

GRENOBLE, FRANCE & DURHAM, USA: MEMSCAP, the leading provider of innovative solutions based on MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) technology, including optical components, announced the qualification of its High Voltage Electrostatic MEMS Variable Optical Attenuator in accordance with Telcordia standards. The device has met all environmental, mechanical and operational stress tests set forth in GR-1209 and GR-1221 standards for passive optical components.

MEMS based Variable Optical Attenuators are integrated within complex optical modules operating up to 100 GBits. They are continuously gaining market share over competing traditional technologies in optical networks applications ranging from Optical Module Protection to the growing segment of Power Management.

MEMSCAP’s commitment to high quality over the years has resulted in numerous breakthrough products exhibiting superior performance and reliability and “the completion of the Telcordia qualification demonstrates MEMSCAP’s commitment to highly-reliable processes, designs, packaging and, ultimately, packaged products.” states Steve Wilcenski, General Manager of the MEMSCAP Customer Products Business Unit.

MEMSCAP’s packaged Electrostatic Variable Optical Attenuator exhibits superior optical power attenuation stability in closed loop operation and is designed to fit most optical printed circuit boards available on the market.

MEMSCAP High Voltage Variable Optical Attenuators are available today for sampling and production shipments.
